สมดุล

Som-dun · Balance

We named the company after what Thai cooking is about.

Our story

Every Thai dish is a negotiation — salt against sour, sweet against heat, fish sauce against lime. A cook tastes and adjusts until it sits right. That point is somdul: balance.

We started SOMDUL because the same balance was missing from the supply side. Restaurants in Houston were buying Thai staples through three or four distributors, none of whom knew the products. Home cooks were paying import-shop prices for the same jar. Producers in Thailand were selling through so many middlemen they never learned who cooked with their sauce.

So we buy at source, ship by container to Los Angeles and Newark, and sell to both kitchens from one catalog — by the case and by the jar, at prices that are fair in both directions.

What we believe

Good ingredients. Fair access. Balance in every kitchen.

The people who make our food and the people who cook with it should both be part of the story. That is the balance we work toward.

Thai flavors. Every kitchen.
